Activity 1
Ice breaker within groups: Photo sharing
Everyone was supposed to share their photo with the groups.
Activity 2
Everyone was asked to bring an item which represented them. These items were placed on a table and each person was given three pieces of paper to post questions on 3 objects that represented someone else. After which, everyone introduced the item which represented themselves and shared with the team more about themselves. For example, Ms Koh shared with the team about her journal which she wrote her reflections in. She shared with us how she first started going on service learning trips. "Dare to Dream Big!"Quoted from Ms Koh.
From this activity, we knew more about each other's personalities.
Activity 3
Each group brainstormed on ideas of things that represent Singapore. After which, we separated the ideas into categories, namely culture, landscape, education and people.

Activity 4
Sharing of what we know about yunnan and questions we have for yunnan within our groups. Ideas and questions were written on mahjong paper and pasted on the walls. However, we were not told of what are these questions for.
Activity 5
Quiz on Singapore
We were given a questionnaire to fill up. The questions include facts about Singapore.
After which, the teachers went through the answers and we were asked to give our answers in Chinese. Xia Yu helped us in this activity by translating the questions to Chinese and helped us to better phrase our answers. We are supposed to know the answers to the questions as we might be asked by the people in yunnan, hence, we should be able to answer them in Chinese too.
Things to note:
-Know how to explain GRC in Chinese
-percentage should be referred to (bai3fen1zhi1____)
-Know how to express road tax in Chinese
Break for lunch in groups
Activity 6
In our groups, we shared about what we think we will be doing in Yunnan. We also came up with a list of questions which we can ask the people in Yunnan to know more about their lives and culture. After which, we shared on what we can do before, during and after the trip so as to answer that questions that we raised previously. These ideas where written in mahjong paper and pasted on the walls too.
Activity 7
Ms Koh asked the team why we are referred Temasek Overseas Outreach instead of OCIP. Next, we broke into our groups to discuss on what is the difference between service learning and OCIP. Ideas where written on the board. After which, each group presented their ideas to the team. The main difference between CIP and service learning are as follows:
In service learning, there are more emotions involved, the project is sustainable, there is a stronger sense of ownership and is self-initiated. In a service learning project, we are of equal status with the people that we will be helping and not superior. Also, there is a difference in mentality and willingness. The key ideas are RECIPROCITY and REFLECTION.
Quote of the day: “I serve you in order to learn from you.”

9th Meeting
Date: 2 August 2007
Time started: 5.45pm
Venue: CR 216
Agenda:
1. T-shirts and Jacket
2. Programmes project
3. Staff Day Fundraising
4. Jigsaw puzzles
5. Timeline after promos
Agenda 1:
In order for the shirts to be cheaper, everyone are requested to buy 2 each. The shirts are in purple and white as brown is not available. The design is changed from the front shoulder to the middle. Each shirt is $8. You may wish to sell the other shirt to your friends.
The jacket will be in black and not purple. There will be an embrioded TJC school crest in the front and the design at the back will be shifted to the middle. It costs $30.
All leaders are to collect a total of $46 from your members around 3 weeks later.
Agenda 2:
The programmes group has proposed to give the Yunnan kids pencilcases. We will get the pencilcases and stationerys from primary schools. It will be sort of a cultural exchange program. We will be going to the schools to educate the students. They will also be exchanging gifts with the Yunnan kids as they will be preparing a collage for them and we will bring back something from the Yunnan kids. We will be doing that straight after promos and we are targeting primary 4 or 6 students as they will be completing their exams earlier.
Agenda 3:
There are 3 activities at the moment..all not comfirmed yet.
1. Song dedication
We will be collaborating this with the SC as they did that for free last year. Still in the mist of discussion.
2. Balloon sculpting
We may be learning how to sculpture balloons and selling them. This is also useful for us as we are planning to give balloons to the Yunnan kids as well.
3. Selling cookies
We will buy the cookies at low cost or if we have the time, bake them ourselves. However, the profits may be low and we still need to package them. Pick Yee and Adele suggested for students to pre-order instead of buying on the day itself so as to show more sincerity to their teachers.
Amanda suggested of selling paper weights. The SciCo has been using some chemicals to make their own paper weights. We may be able to sell them once we get the approval from the SciCo teaher-in-charge. We can even make personalised paper weights. Miss Fong said it would be easier if we provide a standard size of a paper. Students can decorate it the way they want and get it back to us.
Those who has any ideas can contact Jiaxiang directly.
Agenda 4: Jigsaw puzzles
We will be making a 1200-piece puzzle. The leaders of various groups will choose the photo next tues. Those who has any strong ideas can attend the meeting next tues afternoon. Agenda 2: Debrief on movie screening
The teachers think that it was quite a successful event and the people who made it happen has put in a lot of effort to sell all the tickets and also to push for the selling of the food.
Each committee was asked to send a representative to share with the team what their biggest takeback was from this event. We started with the programme committee. Zhongyao mentioned that it was fun and he enjoyed staying overnight and not sleeping though out of all the movies, he thought that saw 1 was the only nice one. Junping felt grateful for those who did not sleep at all to cover the duties for those who couldn't stay up. Yu ang felt apologetic for sleeping halfway through and added that nuggets were easier to sell compared to hotdogs and it does pay off being shameless. The publicity committee, starting with pinqi said that she enjoyed it as they had time to interact with each other and gavin felt that we bought too much food whereas woonyee went to sleep after finising her duty. We continued with the fundraising committee, yee chuin mentioned that it was a great achievement for team dynamics and amanda was really happy that she managed to sell eight tickets after much persuasion. Ms Fong added that determination works and how much we want something to be successful determines the success rate. Francis said he didn't really know about the whole thing and thus was not really sure about it. Priscilla said she enjoyed toasting the food and talking to alot more people. Jiaxiang said that it was not too bad but we should prepare less movies next time as most people were sleeping by the last movie. Denise said it was fun and she bonded more though she came in late. Our last committee, the logistics committee ended our sharing session with Jacquelyn mentioning that everyone's effort made it possible, though some said that they didn't really played their part, and it was the first time we had so many people in one event. Jiahe suggested that we should ask who can stay up for future events so that they can do their duty first Jermone said he didn't go for the movies but still went to buy the food and also rent the movies. Xiayu ended off by saying that it was fun selling the tickets and she bonded well too.
Ms Fong said that she slept alot after the movie marathon as as didn't sleep much on that day but it was a very enjoyable event and she managed to talk and bond with us and some of us made her think that we could do more than what we thought we could. Mr. Cheng was happy with our fairly enthusiasm and team work when it just started as this is what we have to be like when we are in Yunnan where there would be more difficult times and through such events we would understand ech other better and be able to help each other. He managed to know the J1s better too and get to see our capacity to handle stuff and stress and our ability to do work and Ms Fong said that our experience through this event is much more compared to the money we earned.
Agenda 4: Dates for yunnan trip and reccee trip
Tentative dates for Yunnan trip is 12th Nov to 25th Nov (14 days) OP would end on the 6th Nov so we should leave around 9th-14th and the teachers would help us request for an earlier date for OP so that we can prepare for the trip earlier.
As for the recee trip it would be in September 2nd to 5th. Our overall leader will liase with the teachers and then liase with all the members to send messages across and also with the programme team to decide what to be done on our trip so that the leader can find out if the logistics there are suitable for the programmes to be carried out. The leader would also help us find out where we would go for sightseeing, our hotels, market and road conditions and would be able to have first-hand information about the conditions there. Thus if we have any questions we should pass it to her so that she could help us find out.
A voting was done to decide on who the leader should be.
Results:
Leader: Yee Chuin
Assistant leader: Jacquelyn
Fund-raising committee leader: Jiaxiang

3rd meeting
17/05/2007 by gavin
Topics discussed:
Sports Carnival fund-raising
1. Duty Rooster. To be done and compiled by the fund-raising team by monday 21st May. Contact Meiying to choose your individual duties.
2. Posters/Banners Publicity for the store on sports carnival (collaboration with programmes) to drive sales. Due on tuesday (in other words, an end-product must be presented to the teachers on tuesday the 22nd) The posters will be left in the staff room.
Three issues to be addressed.
i) price
ii) selling drinks
iii) to raise awareness about the sales of drinks for a good cause
-Walking posters will be designed (2x). Money should not be spent on resources if possible (use of recycled cardboards? and et cetera)
3. Buying of drinks/cups/ice
-Storage (ice box? styrofoam?) and other big containers to house drinks, pails to fill water
-Scoop? Laddle? Though a scoop will be preferred, anything that serves a similar purpose will do fine. This has to be provided by people in the team, please do check your homes for such containers.
-Trays for "transportation" of drinks during the sales
-Cups --> 600 cups, $5 for 100 cups (the question of where to get the cups? when? who?)
-Drinks
i) Sport drinks (isotonic ones like 100plus) + cold gassy drinks. [Choices available: H2O *24*, Greentea *12*, Coke*24*)
A total of 60 bottles of 1.5l will be bought with an estimated of each bottle only providing 5 cups of drinks to be sold.
ii) Cordial drinks. Flavours like lime, and better ones preferred as compared to the more classic flavors such as rose syrup.
4. Request for RECEIPTS ALL THE TIME for reimbursement.
Other considerations Target: To be able to finally raise $10 000 to $12 000
As for the sports carnival : As much as we can! Try to push for sales if possible.
Cold drinks under the hot sun, after sweating, shouting, it all out during the carnival AND for a good cause... Why not?

2nd meeting
YO people. It's Zong Yao from Programmes here giving u a summary on what we did today.
Today's meeting was mainly focussed on Fundraising. I shall list the ideas proposed.
Those who did not attend the meeting today PLEASE TAG THE BOARD TO GIVE UR VIEWS.
1) Grubday - this is about costume dressing where students and teachers have to pay to dress casually/formally etc. For example, those who wanna wear formal have to pay a higher price. Suggestions from the floor : Making it a class event. Best-Dressed Male and Female?
2) Movie Screening - ideas root from letting TJcians watch movies in cinemas or having super super huge projectors installed in the field etc. Suggestions/Comments : *We cannot sell the tickets cos of copyrights infringements. *As said from Miss Koh's experience, it is tough to get those cinemas to give us discounted price *Selling beverages will definitely work out cos demand is inelastic. Haha. Meaning people will definitely buy. *Making it a night event? Then sell mats etc.
3)Setting a New Record: Making the '30' logo with candy flosses Suggestions/Comments : May need lotsa machines. Hence costly.
4) Y.E.L.L merchandise sales:Sale of notebooks or stationary. Comments/Suggestions: How bout a badge? Selling notebooks at a cheaper price?
5)Collage : Use students photos to make a large collage. Comments/Suggestions:Because it is too large, it may be expensive Printing the puzzle?
6) Mystery Auction : Students bid for tutors' belongings without knowing what the item is. Comments: Dont give too much restrictions.Give some clues/hints maybe.
7)Massive 5cents/10cents collection : each person to contribute a few of the above coins. Comments/Suggestions : As banks require us to pay to convert a certain number of coins to cash, it is not feasible. Thus, why not change it with minimarts etc?
8)Sports Carnival Makeover stall : Offering tattoo services , hair dye etc.
9)Long Term/Short Term Snack Stall : Inviting food stalls over. E.g. Ice cream. Comments/Suggestions: Permission to be sought from College to ensure that what the stores pay us will contribute to our profit and not be channelled to the school's funds etc. Using Donations boxes?
Miscellaneous
-Homecoming dinner
- to ask VIP guests to donate generously.
- Auction? -Sell soft toys? Handicrafts?
- Selling not just T-shirts alone but a package of T-shirts,files and notebooks?
-Selling bottled coke during Guitar Club's concert.
